Choosing the Right Size Mirror for Your Vanity
Selecting the right size mirror for your vanity is crucial for both functionality and aesthetics. Here are some guidelines to help you choose the perfect mirror size, with measurements converted to millimeters:
General Guidelines:
- Width of the Mirror:
- Single Vanity: The mirror should be a few inches (about 100-200 mm) narrower than the vanity. Ideally, it should be 70-80% of the width of the vanity. This ensures a balanced look without overwhelming the space.
Example: For a 900 mm wide vanity, a mirror width between 700-800 mm is ideal.
- Double Vanity: You can choose one large mirror or two smaller mirrors. Each mirror should be slightly narrower than the width of each sink basin.
Example: For a 1500 mm wide double vanity, you can use a single mirror that is 1300-1400 mm wide or two mirrors each 600-700 mm wide.
- Height of the Mirror:
- The height of the mirror can vary depending on the ceiling height and the height of the users. A common height range is 700-900 mm, but it can be taller if you prefer a more dramatic look or if the ceiling is high.
- Ensure the top of the mirror is at least a few inches (about 200-400 mm) above the eye level of the tallest person using the mirror.
- Proportions:
- Proportionate Look: The mirror should not be wider than the vanity itself. A mirror that is too wide can look disproportionate.
- Vertical Space: Ensure there is enough space between the top of the mirror and any lighting fixtures above. Typically, a gap of 100 mm is recommended.
Installation Tips:
- Centering: Center the mirror over the sink or the entire vanity, depending on the style and the number of sinks.
- Framing: Consider whether you want a framed or frameless mirror. A framed mirror can add a decorative element, while a frameless mirror offers a modern, minimalist look.
- Lighting: Ensure adequate lighting around the mirror. Side sconces or an overhead light can provide even illumination and reduce shadows.
Examples:
Single Vanity Example:
- Vanity Width: 1200 mm
- Ideal Mirror Width: 900-1000 mm
- Ideal Mirror Height: 700-900 mm
Double Vanity Example:
- Vanity Width: 1800 mm
- Single Large Mirror: 1500-1700 mm wide
- Two Mirrors: Each 700-800 mm wide
- Ideal Mirror Height: 700-900 mm
By following these guidelines, you can choose a mirror that complements your vanity and enhances the overall look of your bathroom. For more home improvement tips and guides, stay tuned to our blog!
