What pushed you to start renovating?

Jesse and I have been renovating and building since before we got married 12 years ago. With 9 houses under our tool belt, it was a joy to be able to use our expertise to help Katrina's mum and dad renovate their space. Mum swore when they bought this house 15 years ago that the blue tiles and outdated bathroom would be the first thing to change, but it took us to relocate closer to them to finally get it done!

What are your three must have renovation products to keep in your arsenal?

1. A master plan to ensure every product we source and every project we undertake is working towards a common, functional plan that doesn't waste time, money, effort or resources (our design business is based on this premise!)
2. A positive attitude. Nothing with a renovation goes 100% to plan. Even experts like us experience hurdles and stresses along the way. We have learnt to not sweat the small stuff and be flexible, which definitely involves a check in or two to ensure we are approaching the project with gratitude and perspective.
3. A paint brush. Never underestimate the power of paint!

What is one thing you experienced during your bathroom renovation that no one prepared you for?

As I mentioned above, even reno experts like us face unexpected hurdles. For this particular bathroom, we accidentally ordered the wrong shower head and had to pivot quickly to not slow down the job. Katrina's Mum and Dad were away while we worked so we had a deadline! This particular shower head wasn't going to be tall enough for Katrina's Dad while staying movable for her short Mum - but we managed to sort it out in time!

What are your top tips for readers who are inspired to renovate their space?

2. Save money by project managing yourself. While hiring professionals is sometimes necessary, many tasks can be efficiently managed with a DIY approach. By taking on the role of project manager, you not only save on labour costs but also gain a deeper understanding of the intricacies involved in the project. This hands-on experience can be invaluable and empower you to make informed decisions throughout the process.

3. YouTube is your friend when it comes to acquiring new skills and knowledge. The platform is a treasure trove of tutorials and how-to videos covering a wide range of topics. Whether you're learning a new hobby, troubleshooting a home repair, or exploring a DIY project, YouTube offers a wealth of visual guidance.
