How do I check a bathroom light's IP rating before buying?

The IP rating is on the spec sheet as "IPxx": 44 or higher for Zone 1/2. If it's not listed, don't install in a wet-area zone.

What's the difference between an exhaust fan and a heat/fan/light combo?

A standard exhaust fan, like the Modura AllAir range, extracts moisture only. A heat/fan/light combo adds heating and an LED light in one unit.

What size vanity light do I need?

Sit the light within 100mm of the mirror width on each side. The Cougar Zodiac's 540mm, 700mm, and 860mm lengths match single, double, and wide vanities.

Is the Cougar Zodiac vanity light dimmable?

Yes. The Zodiac is dimmable via Clipsal dimmers, though its 4000K colour temperature is fixed. Choose the switchable Eglo TABIANO 2 for adjustable tone.

What happens if my current bathroom lighting isn't IP-rated for its zone?

It's a safety and compliance risk, not just a technicality. An unrated or under-rated fixture in Zone 1 or Zone 2 won't meet AS/NZS 3000:2018, and it's exactly the kind of thing a building inspector or your insurer will flag after a leak or an electrical fault. If you're not sure what's currently installed, ask your electrician to check the rating before your reno is signed off.

Can I install bathroom lighting myself?

No. All fixed electrical installations in Australian bathrooms must be installed by a licensed electrician under AS/NZS 3000:2018, in every state and territory. Factor licensed installation into your renovation budget and timeline early: most electricians treat a lighting fixture as a quick add to a larger bathroom job, not a standalone callout.
