Wall Hung Vanity

The wall hung or wall-mounted vanity is also called a floating vanity. It is a pretty versatile style and goes in many spaces independent of the layout, given you have the space for it – because you will have to sacrifice storage space for a more concise overall look. It accommodates styles like minimalist designs and maximalist singular ones against which you can have a wall hung vanity. They give alternate storage options other than storage only inside the cabinet.  A mirror above it is optional as it can also be used as a separate countertop other than the central piece in a bathroom.

Freestanding Vanity

Alternatively, a freestanding vanity itself can have many subcategories depending on the chosen layout of its placement. It is relatively easier to install than a wall hung vanity and also saves more space overall which makes it an economical choice for smaller bathrooms. Drawers and sinks are its most significant features and uses that can be customized accordingly.

Types of sinks and faucets to go with the vanity

The undermount vanity sink which is created underneath the surface of the countertop creating a smooth edge.

The drop-in sink that rests above the countertop with a hole on the surface of the vanity top.

The console sink which is a slightly less preferred style due to its elaborate spread that leaves no room for storage around for essentials like soap and face wash etc.

How to Install a Vanity for Bathroom

Things you need to get started:

Appropriate tools some of which are a measuring tape, a hammer drill, a screwdriver and a couple of screws and importantly, a protective equipment.

It is by no means an easy task but you can achieve it by careful consideration of all the features as we have mentioned beforehand like layout, positioning, functionality, etc, and a whole lot of patience.

For free-standing vanity:

Start with measuring and marking out the territory of a 750mm vanity

Next step is to drill a hole in the required spots and put the plumbing pipes through them.

After positioning them, you will need to secure the screws and fasten it to the wall.

Ultimately, you can put the drawers in and the countertop and sunk respectively.

Installing a fancy sink is a more difficult task and will need more expertise unless it is a readymade sink only to be placed in the vanity for bathroom counter.

For wall hung vanity:

The wall needs to be framed and reinforced first because wall hang vanities need to be attached to solid fixings on the wall.

Install solid fixings/nogs where required in the wall.

Measure positions of any new pipes on the wall and transfer them to the backboard of the vanity.

Pre-drill holes in the back of the vanity to screw to the solid fixings.

Build a support frame and position vanity onto the wall.

Screw it in place. Consult a professional to reconnect pipework and taps.

Good to know:

A wall hung vanity while a great investment may be a tad bit challenging to install. This is not to say that you cannot DIY but it’s good to contact a professional.

Wall hung or floor mounted?

A wall hung vanity has a streamlined, minimalistic design and hence it lends to a more contemporary style. Since they are devoid of legs or a base, they tend to occupy less space; something that makes them an ideal fit for smaller bathrooms. A wall-hung vanity naturally does not offer the same cubic storage as floor mounted ones, but some come with tactfully placed drawers and shelves. However, they are a little challenging to install because the wall must be framed and reinforced first. They also offer additional clearance space making it easier for everyone in the family to access them. Floor mounted cabinets can exude sleek, ornate, and opulent aesthetics. Since they’re installed directly onto the bathroom floor, they can feel more secure/solid. They come in multiple ranges of sizes and styles but are less mobility-friendly.

With this small guide, we hope you got a puny bathroom vanity lesson on the variations, styles and method of installation of bathroom vanities. Use it on your next bathroom vanity purchase from Zure bathrooms and transform your washing space.
