Why you should choose copper press fittings

In today’s modern society, there are multiple options when it comes to choosing your plumbing fittings. From copper press fittings, polly pipe and pex pipe, it can be difficult to make a decision on which you should go with.

Seeking advice from your plumber is recommended, but it’s also a good idea to do some research yourself in order to know what you are fitting your home out with. Knowing the advantages and disadvantage of each material type can help you decide what type of plumbing fittings you want in your home.

Of the available types of plumbing fittings, copper is still generally preferred for multiple reasons. Despite the relatively high cost, they are reliable and practical, and generally the preferred material to use for your pipes.

With the invention of copper press fittings, soldering is a thing of the past. Copper press fittings have been increasingly used for projects in Europe over the past 25 years, but have been used in Australia for 8 years with the invention of the Viega Propress system.

This product makes for an easier and safer experience throughout the installation, with no fire hazards or fumes and emissions. It’s a much quicker job with no drying and less preparation required.

With the invention of copper press fittings, you can enjoy the benefits of copper without compromising on time-efficiency and safety. They only require one hand operation, so connecting the pipes is as easy as clamping over the joints and pressing a button.

Considering all the options you have will allow you to make the best decision for your house, however there are many benefits of copper press fittings as listed below.

Copper Press Fittings

Quality of materials

Pex Pipe (cross-linked polyethylene) is manufactured by brands such as Tradepex, Sharkbite, Pipapex, Ozpex, and Waterpex. These pipes are the newest type of plumbing fittings. They are made of a durable plastic composite, which allow for it to be affordable in comparison to other options.

Pex Pipe can be installed easily however it is essential to have the right tools in order to install it, such as crimping tools and specialised heads. It can be difficult to choose your pex pipe due to the amount of options available, and it is not recommended to use for hot water or high-pressure systems. It will generally last longer than polly pipe, however, crimped pex pipe is more prone to leaks.

It can be hard to select your pex pipes due to the multiple options available on the market. If you choose to go with Pex pipe, it is recommended to store extra pipe for future work.

Polly pipe was the leading alternative to copper press fittings prior to the invention of pex pipe. It is available in two types: blue-line for potable and drinking water and black-line for irrigation. Polly pipe is quick and easy to install and affordable in comparison to copper press fittings.

However, polly pipe has a short life span when compared to pex pipe and copper press fittings. Furthermore, it is not recommended for use in places with UV exposure.

When it comes to the quality of materials, copper press fittings are undoubtedly the best choice. The relatively high cost is outweighed by its reliability and versatility. It can be used for hot, cold, and gas pipework and thus can be used for a wide range of plumbing applications.

Despite its classification as a traditional plumbing option, it has kept its relevance through innovations such as the introduction of crimp fittings like b-press copper fittings.

Durability

Copper press fittings are undoubtedly more durable than its alternatives. Rather than being made of plastic which is more easy to degrade, this metal can last for years without impacting its performance.

If you are concerned about the durability of your plumbing system, copper press fittings are your best bet to ensure that you avoid situations such as leaking.

Installing copper press fittings adds value to your home and gives you peace of mind about your plumbing system. Its versatility means that you can easily fit out your home and have confidence in the workings of your home.

Copper press fittings go through a production process which gets rid of any excess copper which can accumulate in the pipes. Because of this, the resistance within the system is reduced so that gas or water can flow easily throughout it, improving the performance of the pipes.

Their unique slot design helps prevent leakage and rupture when creating joints, allowing for a safer plumbing system for the customer.

Easy to install

Copper press fittings are easy to install, as the pipes are easy to join through methods such as crimp fittings, soldering, or compression unions. There is no brazing, welding, or cutting required when installing these pipes.

They are also universal which equates to less confusion about the installation process. It is easy to repair copper press fittings compared to other materials.

Because of this, your plumber will have an easier time fitting out your home if you choose to go with copper press fittings.

Copper Press Fittings

Reliability

Copper pipes are still the preferred option for many plumbers, especially when doing installation projects within homes. This is because you can count on the material to be strong and reliable as compared with pex and polly pipes.

The invention of copper press fittings has allowed consumers access to this material without worrying about the safety and fire hazards associated with the traditional soldering methods.

Copper press fittings allow your pipes to be joined together securely and permanently and are less prone to leakage.

Compared to polly and pex pipe, copper is the superior material, and press fittings have led to innovation which allow for a faster and easier installation. If you’re contemplating what to go with when choosing the pipes for your home plumbing system, investing in copper press fittings is a good idea.

It might be more costly, but this is easily outweighed by the durability, reliability, and quality of materials. You’ll have peace of mind and add value to your home with copper press fittings.
