What to consider when choosing your laundry taps

Are you in the process of renovating your home? It’s a hefty task, with so many things to consider. From bathroom fittings like sinks and mirrors, kitchen appliances such as ovens and stovetops, or even laundry accessories such as laundry taps, there are many decisions to make.

From style to durability to functionality, there are many things to consider when choosing the fixtures and fittings for your home. It’s important that you make the right decisions so that you don’t regret purchases down the line.

The contents of your home are important – not only do they affect your everyday life in that you use and see them on the daily, they also affect the value of your home if in the future you do decide to sell.

It’s a good idea to establish a vision for what you want your finished product to look like. If you want your home to have a cohesive style, you may want to do some research and brainstorming into the kind of aesthetic you want your home to have.

Do you want a minimalistic home, or something with more character, such as rustic or bohemian? These decisions will help inform you on the fittings and fixtures you choose to purchase.

If you’re struggling to settle on an aesthetic you want for your home, it’s a good idea to browse some magazines or interior design websites for some inspiration. In this digital age, there are many options for you to gain inspiration from – whether it’s from social media pages such as Instagram or Pinterest or interior design blogs.

Browsing these sources can help you to create your own mood board for your house renovation. With these details in mind, you’ll be better equipped to make your purchase decisions.

Aside from style, thinking about functionality is also extremely important. What kind of features are a must-have for your home? Maybe you need a mirrored shaving cabinet for extra storage, or a combined shower and bath to save on space.

These are all considerations you should keep in mind when choosing products for your home, from sinks to laundry taps. All items you choose will affect how much you love your home, so even choosing something as small as laundry taps is an important decision. Keep reading to learn what to consider when choosing your laundry taps!

Size

The size of your laundry taps is an important consideration that can depend on other factors such as the space available and the size of your sink.

If you want to save on space, you can choose to have a wall-mounted or self-cutting laundry tap as they do not take as much space.

Or maybe you have an abundance of space and want laundry taps that provide you with a large volume of water in no time. This is also another option you can consider depending on your needs and wants.

Functionality

When you choose your laundry taps, it is important to choose something that is functional and practical for your home. A feature that may make your laundry taps easier to use is if it has a 360° rotation, meaning that you can conveniently access it from anywhere around the sink.

Another feature you might want to look at is its WELS (Water Efficiency and Labelling Standards) score, which measures the water efficiency of the laundry taps. WELS is a government initiative that was introduced in 2005 in order to ensure a minimum standard of water efficiency from products such as showers, toilets, washing machines and dishwashers.

Any product that consumes water must be tried and tested to meet the minimum standard required by a government regulator.

WELS ratings are given a number of stars out of 6. For a more cost-effective and environmentally friendly option, you should look into a tap that has a relatively high WELS rating.

You should also consider the maximum water temperature your laundry taps can withstand. Hot water must be stored in hot water systems at above 60°C to prevent bacteria growth, so anything hotter, such as 80°C will be sufficient for your home.

Water pressure is another consideration you might take into account when purchasing your laundry taps. Pressure of max 500 kpa (kilopascal) should be sufficient for your laundry taps.

Materials

It is important that you look at the material your laundry taps are made of before you purchase them. One popular material that has stood its ground despite trends is brass. Brass is a solid material that will stand the test of time and serves well in your home.

It is a cheaper alternative to materials such as copper and bronze, and you can buy brass in a number of finishes, from chrome to brushed or even matter black.

Because of this, you can easily utilise brass laundry taps in creating the aesthetic that you want for your home.

Cost

Budgeting is never fun to think about, but it’s an important consideration when undergoing a renovation. You don’t want to rack up debts you’ll take ages to pay back, so it’s important that you keep track of how much you’re spending and what you’re spending it on.

Yes, something like laundry taps is a relatively small purchase – but all those small purchases add up, so before you embark on your renovation, consider what you need to purchase. Not just the big purchases, like a dishwasher or washing machine, but the smaller accessories as well.

In today’s market it is relatively easy to get the best price for the fixtures and fittings that you are looking for. With the rise of e-commerce, there are now multiple sites and suppliers that you have access to via the web.

Knowing this, it is easy to do some research and establish how much you are willing to spend on the items you purchase for your home. Don’t spring for overpriced laundry taps, but don’t compromise quality for price either. Finding good quality laundry taps at a reasonable price is possible, so do your research properly.
