Four storage solutions to minimise mess in your home

If you struggle with minimising the amount of mess in your home, don’t worry – you’re not the only one. It’s natural to have so many items that you just don’t have the space for, and while doing a full Marie Kondo cleanout can help, another way of minimising mess and wastage is to find storage solutions that work for your home and lifestyle.

Whether it’s implementing an organisation system or investing in a mirrored bathroom cabinet, there are plenty of ways that you can reorganise things in order to clear the clutter in your house. It doesn’t have to be expensive, and either way, it’s an investment that will make your life easier on a daily basis.

Before you start implementing these storage solutions, it is a good idea to try and go through the items in your home and decide whether they really are necessary or not. It might be hard to part ways with your prom dress from five years ago or that top you really liked but have never worn, but remember that these items are taking up space that could be allocated to things you would actually wear.

Memories live on in your mind and through photos – so you don’t always have to keep an item for sentimental reasons. Remember that these items could always find a new home and go on to create more memories for others.

Sitting down and going through these items is also a great cathartic activity that will make you feel lighter when you are done. Don’t just hide the items away in your garage, never to be looked at again. Going through your old things can help you remember the good times and also give you closure on the bad.

Organise your pantry

Organising your pantry is a great way to minimise mess in your kitchen. It can be easy to leave clutter around – after three meals a day, there’s no doubt that your kitchen will get a little messy! Not only will organising your pantry make your kitchen look better, it’ll make it easier for you to prepare for meals and cook, as you know where everything is.

A good way to organise is to allocate certain parts of your pantry to certain items, such as rice and noodles, canned items, and sauces. This will automatically signal to you how much you have, which will make grocery shopping a breeze. You’ll also know exactly where to go to get your ingredients when you’re cooking.

Invest in a mirrored bathroom cabinet

Have you considered investing in a mirrored bathroom cabinet? This storage solution is an easy way to hide mess in your bathroom. With hidden storage behind the mirror, you won’t have to worry about where to put your cosmetics and personal care items.

Rather than having a mess of bottles cluttered around your sink, you can easily organise and hide your items away behind the mirror. You can choose to have it recessed for a cleaner look. This mirrored bathroom cabinet allows you to easily stop the clutter in your bathroom.

Rather than opting for a normal mirror with has no storage benefits, mirrored cabinets in your bathroom will allow you to save on space, so you don’t have to add other storage compartments or opt for a larger vanity.

Mirrored cabinets in bathrooms are becoming more popular as people seek to imitate a minimalist style in their homes. The clean look is very on brand for a bathroom, and it matches perfectly with the simplicity of typical bath ware products.

Hidden storage solutions

Just like the mirrored bathroom cabinet, there are plenty of other hidden storage solutions you can utilise throughout your home. Consider opting for a sofa with hidden storage under its cushions. This is an easy way to store away items such as blankets which aren’t needed all the time.

If you opt for a larger sofa, you’ll have plenty of space to hide away items in your living room when they are not in use. It’s a win-win situation – you have a comfortable sofa that can double for a bed for your guests and you get more storage space.

This will also save you from having an extra mattress for guests as they can easily sleep on your sofa bed.

Other hidden storage solutions include drawers underneath your bed. When purchasing a bed, you can opt for one with drawers underneath so that you aren’t simply wasting the room underneath your sleeping area.

If you don’t want to invest in a new bed frame, you can also easily fit large containers underneath your bed frame. Things such as books and mementos that you want to keep but don’t always need can be easily stored away.

Need more space in the kitchen? Hidden shelves are becoming more popular. There are thin shelving units that can fit in the space between your fridge and your cabinets, utilising the space in your kitchen.

Implement a cleaning system

Implementing a cleaning system is a good way to minimise mess in your home. Something as simple as dedicating ten minutes of your time everyday to tidy up your home can make a huge difference. At the end of the day, take the time to go through your living room and pick up things that may have fallen onto the floor.

This solution only works if you keep your home relatively clean when going about your task. Don’t put off cleaning that big pot that you used to make dinner. Clean as you go, and then at the end of the day take some time to tidy things up.

These storage solutions can be a game changer when it comes to minimising clutter. Mirrored bathroom cabinets can hide away the clutter, so you should definitely consider installing mirrored cabinets in your bathroom.

Not only will a mirrored bathroom cabinet hide away your mess, they are an aesthetic addition to your home. Other storage solutions such as a bed with drawers and hidden storage in sofas can easily save you space. With a few changes your home can be free from clutter!
