Guides: Building Your Shower

, by Zure Australia, 6 min reading time

Bathroom remodels are such a task, right? Especially without a lot of safe shortcuts at your disposal. But we bet that having the ability to design your very own shower room makes it all very worthwhile. (Imagine having that kind of control on your life!) However, because there are several options for you to choose from to customize your bath and shower experience you may want to include everything you need and nothing that you won’t use. As it goes, knowledge is power, and we’d want you to make in informed choice. So, let’s dive in to look at the perfect shower fit for you and your dream bathroom.

What does a shower system include?

A shower system involves all the essentials of your shower experience:

A rain shower head ensures the water is evenly distributed so much so that it mimics the feeling of rainfall. It thus seamlessly offers a spa-like soothing experience at home. A hand shower head let you take control and direct the water wherever required. You can also alter the flow accordingly thereby paving the way for greater flexibility and convenience.  You can also get both, however do keep in mind that it would require an additional shower diverter to function.

  • The diverter to determine flow and temperature between two water outlets, for instance a rain shower head and a hand shower head.

It may or may not include a couple of other additions:

  • A separate hand shower: It allows greater flexibility and ease of access/use especially is a disability toilet or disability shower station. It attaches to the shower hose.

  • Individual controls for temperature/water for multiple water outlets.

  • Shower stations: An ensemble containing all the fixtures/components that you will require for a great experience especially after a hard day’s work. You can choose the look you want based on all the different options instead of hoping that your individual purchases will blend together once installed.

  • Shower arms: Your shower head is connected to an internal water outlet via a shower arm or a dropper. The only difference is that while the former is mounted on the wall, the latter is connected to the ceiling. Our shower arms come in different size/color options for you to suit your requirements.

  • Shower Mixer: Also known as assembly taps, these are required primarily to operate your shower and offers greater control over the pressure and temperature of your water.

  • Shower wall taps: These taps are mounted on the wall and enhances accessibility. Our shower taps are designed to impress while ensuring durability and reliability. The best part? They are remarkably easy to install!

  • Shower rails: It is mounted to the wall and offers a feasible anchor for your hand shower head. This rail lets you adjust the angle/height of your hand shower.

You can buy these fixtures individually or even opt for a complete shower panel (or get yourself a fully outfitted shower system station ready to go, a few of these shower components will remain the same. What will vary is how you fit them into your bathroom design.

Double Shower

If you are envisaging a larger-than-life walk-in-shower, you may also opt for a double shower. And if you’re feeling extra indulgent maybe even take a look at shower heads with filters? The whole double shower station ordeal lends you a touch of affordable luxury and makes it all look so seamless. Double showers allow greater flexibility and offers a practical solution to couples. You can mount them parallelly or side by side depending on your layout, available space, and personal preference.

DIY

The best thing about bathroom fixtures in our humble opinion is that they can be easily reinstalled any time. In case you already have some fixtures that you like you can definitely keep them as you move ahead in your bathroom reno journey with Zure. You do not have to opt for a complete shower station, instead you can buy extra shower fixtures you may want. Depending on the parts you want, this option is affordable and effortless. It does require you to do a bit of research however instead of simply going for an all-in-one shower setup.

How to clean your shower head and drain?

Sometimes all your shower needs is a good old scub-a-dub. How to go about it? Well, these are the things you will require:

Baking soda, twist ties, boiling water, white vinegar, zip top bag, rags, scrubber sponge.

  • Scrub the shower head with a sponge or a toothbrush.

  • Mix equal parts water and white vinegar in a zip top bag. Place your shower head into the bag while ensuring that the holes are submerged in the mixture. Attach it to the shower head with a twist tie.

  • For a brass, nickel or gold fixture remove the solution after 30 minutes. For everything else you can keep it on for an hour or even overnight.

  • Wipe the head with a cloth and run hot water through the shower.

  • For your drain you can first pour a cup of baking soda followed by a cup of vinegar and cover it with a wet rag or cloth.

  • Let the mixture bubble and sit for a couple of minutes. Then pour hot water through your drain.

Voila! Now you have a clean drain and shower head.
