How to install a mirrored cabinet in your bathroom

Having a mirrored cabinet in your bathroom is very trendy, with many interior designers opting to do so to create a seamless, more minimalistic look. The multipurpose nature of this item allows for storage to be easily hidden, creating a cleaner aesthetic for your home.

If you’re someone who struggles with keeping your space organised and neat, this product can definitely help you to do so. Not only will you keep the mess behind doors, it provides a reflective surface for you to get ready at in the morning.

There are many options out there for you to choose from. With the rise of e-commerce, ordering a new cupboard is as easy as going online and clicking ‘order’. However, before you do so, you should consider researching into your options in order to get the product that is right for you and your space.

It’s not easy choosing a piece of furniture, as you must keep in mind that it is something that will live in your house long-term. As such, you should take care in examining the quality of the products you browse and determine whether it will look good in your home.

Installing a mirrored cabinet in your bathroom can be a hard task, but if you have the right guidance, it’s easy enough. While most people opt to hire a handyman to do to the job, it is definitely possible to tackle it by yourself. You’ll need tools and an extra hand, but it’s a good option if you’re looking to cut down on costs.

Before you start to assemble your product, you should have access to a few tools, such as a screwdriver, measuring tape, a short level, stud finder, wood screws, and a cordless drill. You might also want to get safety glasses and gloves to ensure that you won’t get hurt!

Disassemble your old cupboard

The first step to take when installing a mirrored cabinet in your bathroom is to uninstall your old one. To do this, make sure you first remove all of the items currently residing in your old cupboard.

Then use a screwdriver to loosen the screws attaching the interior of the cabinet to the studs, and pull out the cabinet. If you are installing your new product to another wall, then you won’t have to do this!

However, be sure to clean whichever wall you are installing your new product onto, as this will assist you with being able to clearly see your reference marks on the wall. You won’t be able to clean the area after your new item is installed!

Unpack your package

The first thing you should do when receiving your product is to check that all the parts included are in your package, and that it actually is the product that you want. Everyone makes mistakes and product defects are also possible, so inspecting the item before installing it is key.

Take everything out and check to ensure that you don’t stumble across problems when installing it. It’s definitely a good idea to check your package against the website’s product listing and ensure that everything matches up.

Check the area for pipes or wires

Before you install your mirrored cabinet in your bathroom, be sure to check the area for pipes or wires. You don’t want to accidentally mess with such cording within your walls, so this is an essential step! You can use a detector for this.

Remove the doors from your cupboard

You should firstly remove the doors from your new cabinet to make it easier to handle when installing. Do this by using your cordless drill with a screw-tip attachment to loosen and then remove the screws holding the door hinges to the cupboard.

Take the doors off and set them aside as you install the new mirrored cabinet in your bathroom, making sure to save the screws.

Measure and mark your wall

You can then position the cabinet into your wall in order to properly mark where you wish to install it. The best position would be over the sink, as it is in a prime position for you to get ready in the morning, utilising it as you wash your face or do other personal care tasks.

Use a short level at the top to ensure that the cabinet is placed exactly horizontally – you don’t want a wonky mirrored cabinet in your bathroom! Use pencil to mark the top, sides, and bottom of the cupboard when you are satisfied with its position. This will be extremely helpful when you install it.

Measuring Tape

Drill the holes for your cupboard

Using a stud finder, you should then locate studs in the wall between the reference marks for each side of the cabinet. Mark the locations of each stud that is just above the top reference marks on the wall and below the bottom ones.

Then, align your cupboard to the reference marks you previously made on the wall. Using the top and bottom stud marks as a guide, drive a pair of wood screws through the back of the cabinet and into their corresponding studs. Drive the screws an inch and a half below the top and one inch above the bottom side of the cabinet.

Reattach doors and shelves

Once you have the base of your cupboard situated and screwed into the wall, it’s time to pick up your doors and screws from before and reattach them. Do this by screwing the hinges back on, and then install the shelves that come with your cabinet.

After this is over, you will have a new mirrored cabinet in your bathroom! This project is definitely one that you should tackle with your friend or partner, as it can be quite hard to handle a cupboard by yourself.

While it’s doable to install your mirrored cabinet in your bathroom by yourself, there’s no shame in calling for someone professional to install it for you. If this process seems too tricky and you’re not sure if you can handle it, it’s better to be safe than sorry and call someone else for the job.
